Job description

We are working with a design led, fast expanding house builder who have developed a strong reputation for creating the highest quality housing developments throughout the South and South East of England. It is down to this continued success that they are now looking to strengthen their close-knit team with a Design Manager.

The company is well known for having a low staff turn-over and many people who join, tend to stay there for many years due to the work environment, quality projects and attention to detail with each development they design and build. If you’re looking for a company for longevity and the high quality attention to detail, then this could be the role for you. Most of the projects are small to medium in size in picturesque parts of the country which is why their developments always sell off plan very quickly.

As Design Manager you will be involved in the production of planning applications produced both in house and also by external architects and consultants. You will produce detailed planning applications using bespoke house types as well as site feasibility layouts assisting the Land Managers in bidding for future sites. The role will continuously be varied and exciting which is bound to keep you interested and challenged. You will need to attend planning committee meetings and arrange meetings and public exhibitions with local planning authorities, parish councils and other parties.

This is a unique role where you will be involved in the front end development cycle which is bound to give you brilliant experience over most other Design Manager positions with competitor house builders out there. You will be part of an integral team who all get on well with each other and help each other as and when needed. There are constant social events as well as charity fund raises and everyone is encouraged to get involved. There will be ongoing support, career progression and a ‘door always open’ mentality from the Directors of the business.

Key Requirements:

  • At least 3 years’ experience working for a house builder or developer within design (bespoke residential is preferred).
  • Degree qualified in architecture or another relevant discipline.
  • A strong understanding of current planning legislations and working closely with the land team on bidding for sites.
  • Strong hand drawn sketch layouts and planning drawings.
  • Be proficient with AutoCAD
  • Able to work on your own as well as part of a team.
  • Ambitious, career driven and calm under pressure.
