Job description

Technical Manager needed for an entrepreneurial, design led house builder in Kent who cover the South East and Sussex locations.

I’m currently working with an entrepreneurial, design led house builder and contractor in the Kent region who have gone from strength to strength in the last few years alone. Due to continued success, their name has now become one of the leaders in the Kent region and with a strong pipeline of work behind them, they are now looking for a Technical Manager to join their ‘family feel’ team of individuals.

As Technical Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing up to 3 or 4 projects (depending on size) at any one time. Liaising with external contractors, architects and other members of your team, you will be responsible for making sure the project is running on time, within budget, overcoming any issues which may arise and reporting in to the Technical Director of the business with regular updates. You will NOT be micro managed in some companies though.

You will be involved with projects ranging from small bespoke developments of 10 units up to larger scale developments of around 250 units in size. Whilst most projects will be residential based, you may on rare occasions be involved in commercial or mixed use developments. These projects will mainly be low rise traditional housing however there will be some which will include RC frame structures so experience on previous RC frame projects would be preferable.

As Technical Manager, you will have at least 4 years’ experience working with a house builder, contractor or developer on residential based projects and will be able to hit the ground running. You must be calm under pressure, able to make decisions quickly and effectively and also willing to mentor more junior members of the team.

As the team grows, you will be offered ongoing support, training and superb career progression within and the good thing about the team is that everyone chips in to help and succeed together, opposed to the internal politics you find at some companies out there. There are regular social events and the Directors of the business always have a ‘door always open’ mentality which helps to making sure everyone feels welcome to discuss any issues or concerns with them moving forward.

You will be paid a competitive salary, offered a good package including healthcare as well as a car allowance and discretionary bonus.

Key Requirements:

  • At least 4 years’ experience working for a house builder, developer or contractor on residential projects.
  • Experienced in low rise traditional housing (RC Frame knowledge is a bonus but NOT essential).
  • Confident in overseeing up to 4 projects at any one time (depending on size) and able to oversee more junior members of staff, offering support as and when needed.
  • Calm under pressure, able to make decisions quickly and effectively and a future leader.
  • Degree qualified in architecture, engineering or other relevant qualification.
