TDM Success Stories, Week Five – Charlie Thurston, Principal Consultant, New Homes Sales & Marketing

Here at TDM Recruitment Group we take pride in our team’s success, focusing on our homegrown talent, as demonstrated in the achievements in our consultants who have worked hard to succeed within a difficult market.

In the coming weeks we shall be exploring the backgrounds and development of several of our consultants that cover the diverse areas of the residential property industry. Now in week five, we’ve caught up with Charlie Thurston, Principal Consultant within New Homes Sales and Marketing division.

Charlie, when did you start at TDM Recruitment Group and what did you do prior to working at TDM?

I started at TDM in May 2017 and had previously worked for a couple of recruitment agencies, one of which was a temporary Trades and Labour desk, one a Mechanical and Electrical desk and the other a generalist, high-street agency. I learnt a new industry when I joined TDM and have enjoyed working in a streamlined and effective manner.

What was your first role at TDM?

I started TDM as a Consultant within the New Homes Sales and Marketing Division in May 2017, where I am successfully placing New Homes Sales Negotiators in to mainstream, retirement and private Housebuilders/Housing Associations across London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.

What is your current role at TDM, and how have you progressed through the business since you started?

I was promoted to a Senior Consultant within 5 months of being at TDM and continued to grow my desk at a rate that allowed me to be again be promoted to a Principal Consultant in March 2018.

What are you most proud of during your time at TDM?

Recruitment isn’t an easy industry to work in, and there are very testing times, so I am most proud of being able to progress quickly through the ranks to a Principal Consultant. I remember in month one and two it being extremely hard, I had a few placements drop out for various reasons, but having the resilience to keep going proved to be everything. Tom even thought I was going to quit, that’s how bad it was!

What would you recommend to people about TDM?

For anyone coming into TDM, I would say you need to have a positive mind set and willing to put in the work behind the scenes. You’re only given tasks to complete that will progress you and show you the ropes, it may seem a bit tedious at times but it all pays off in the end.

TDM is very different to any other recruitment company I have worked at, but what we do here genuinely does work. It’s important to understand that the majority of the people within this company have started either as a Resourcer or a Consultant and are progressed upon merit. If you put in the work, it will pay off and you will get rewarded for it.

The rate of progression and the freedom of choice that we have in our roles encourages others to join the business within the recruitment industry, from contacts that we know, because they see what we do, and how we do it and want to join a company that work the way we do. Looking around the business, a lot of consultants recommend internally and it does create a real buzz.
