Job description.

I am currently recruiting an Architectural Technologist or Architectural Technician for an award winning, privately owned house builder and developer in Dorset to join an exciting in house architectural department. You will need to have a strong eye for detail, have experience in delivering technical drawing packages and have superb communication skills. The successful candidate will be based in the office however you will be expected to attend site when necessary. The projects you will be working on will include mainly new-build residential dwellings but may occasionally have some elements of commercial within them.

Reporting in to the Head of Technical, you will be working as part of a team alongside other Architectural Technologists, Technical Coordinators and Technical Managers and will receive ongoing support and training as part of your career development. You will be producing working drawings, primarily in Revit and AutoCAD and must ensure all work is in line with current UK building regulation and industry standards. Liaising regularly with the Head of Technical regarding current project updates, the project drawing programmes and drawing tasks. Whilst you will be working as part of a wider team, there will be elements that you need to take the initiative and work alone however support is always offered should it be required and there is room for good career progression and longevity within the business who is going to be expanding again in the next 12-18 months.

Whilst the majority of work will be done in house, there may be occasions due to work load that external consultants will need to be required so you will need to be confident in dealing with external consultants such as Architects to ensure drawings are correct and completed in a timely fashion, attending site meetings and inspections as and when required. You will need to have an architectural degree or be CIAT registered and it would be a preference if you have experience working on residential led developments. You need to have UK experience on these projects and will ideally have around 2-3 years + experience in the field.

The role would be ideal for an Architectural Technologist or Architectural Technician who is looking to make the move from an architectural practice to work directly with a client in the house building world but still wants to retain the drawing aspect of their role. Not many house builders or developers can offer this as most will coordinate with external consultants but this is a rare occasion to do what you love but working the other side of the fence whilst gaining some valuable on site experience and seeing the product being built first hand.

Key Requirements:

  • Architectural degree or CIAT registered.
  • Ideally experience working on residential led developments, a bonus if you’ve worked with housebuilders or developers as clients.
  • 2-3 years experience working in architectural practice.
  • A fine eye for detail, able to work independently as part of a team.
  • The hunger and desire to progress within the business and to learn.
  • Full driving license required.
