The Background
This business sits in an interesting spot. It builds homes for open market sale, but a large share of what it delivers is mixed-tenure, often in partnership with registered providers and local authorities. That makes schemes bigger and more complex, and the engineering brief is rarely off the shelf. The East Midlands team has a strong pipeline of large sites around Leicester and Loughborough, several with multiple phases and serious infrastructure. They need a Civil Engineer who enjoys a problem with a few moving parts.
The Role
You’ll sit in the technical department and own the civils design on a handful of schemes, from early feasibility through to adoption. You’ll work alongside commercial and partnership colleagues, so you’ll see how engineering decisions shape the wider deal.
What you’ll be doing
- Reviewing and coordinating consultant engineering design for roads, sewers, drainage and external works
- Leading Section 38, 104 and 278 submissions, and working with highway authorities and the water company through to adoption
- Developing SuDS strategies with the Lead Local Flood Authority, including attenuation, infiltration and pumping stations where needed
- Balancing earthworks and levels to keep cut and fill efficient and muck-away costs down
- Assessing abnormals at land stage and feeding costs to the commercial team
- Supporting site teams with setting out queries, temporary works interfaces and inspections
- Keeping infrastructure phasing aligned with sales releases and partner handovers
What we’re looking for
- A Civil Engineer with housebuilding, developer or civils consultancy experience
- Strong working knowledge of highways and drainage adoption processes
- Comfort using or reviewing design in software such as Civils 3D or MicroDrainage
- A degree or HNC in civil engineering, with chartership welcome but not essential
- Clear communication with non-engineers, because not everyone in the room will speak your language
