Job description

I’m working with one of the country’s leading main contractors who are renowned for working on some of the most talked about projects in the UK. The company is involved in a wide variety of projects including residential, mixed use, education and commercial to name a few. The company is well established with many prestigious awards under their belt. The staff turnover is low, and the company has a great company ethos which makes it a fantastic place to work!

Due to continued success and expansion, they are looking for an experienced Design Manager to join their close-knit team of individuals to work on a prestigious school project in Kent. They need someone who can hit the ground running, so you must have at least 2 years’ experience as a Design Manager or at least be a very experienced Design Coordinator who’s looking to take the step up.

As Design Manager you will need to pick up a project from the planning stages through to financial agreement and then manage the project on site. You will preferably be working for a competitor contractor however individuals who have previous experience working on school’s projects who may have moved into other sectors will also be considered. You will need to be calm under pressure, be approachable and able to interact well with other team members and external consultants.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant field like Architecture, Engineering.
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a Design Manager or a very experienced Design Coordinator looking to take the step up.
  • Previous or current experience of working on educational projects including refurbishment and new build schools.
  • Able to hit the ground running and manage a project from planning through to financial agreement and managing the project on site.
  • Strong organisational and work management skills.
  • Good time management skills and able to stick to tight deadlines.
  • A good problem solver who can solve issues efficiently and effectively.
  • A people person who is able to interact well with other members of staff as well as external consultants.
