Job description.

Fantastic opportunity for Planner / Jnr Planner who is looking to progress their career. We have a Northampton based client looking to recruit immediately and bring someone in to grow and develop with them. 

 

The role:

Responsible for managing all aspects of the planning system on behalf of our company.

In addition to managing planning applications and appeals for live sites and strategic land, you will also have responsibility for devising planning strategies, managing consultant development teams, and supporting the development of team members.

You will prepare information and evidence in respect of housing need for a given area and manage the preparation and submission of major and minor planning applications.

Working closely with the Land and Planning team, you will ensure maximum contribution is achieved from all planning allocations or approvals. You will also be involved in partnership working and liaison with planning authorities, monitoring the progress of planning status, and working with wider project teams including surveyors, engineers and architects.

You will have the credibility and gravitas necessary to be able to influence the formation of planning policy and strategic land promotion, as well as handling the development management process and implementing community engagement strategies.

Developing the accuracy of our forward planning and forecasting for project completion is an important part of the role as is the creation, maintenance and review of programmes of work. You will also be responsible for planning contingency programmes in case of changes in timeframes.

The individual will also be expected to keep abreast of key planning policy changes and how this impinges on housing development and design. The successful candidate will be expected to have an interest in evolving the Company’s position on house type design and the public realm.

Preparation, analysis and presentation of progress reports will be required along with attendance at project and department meetings, which may be held at various locations outside of the workplace.

The Person:

  • A graduate level Planner with 1-2  years’ experience with a housebuilder, local authority or private consultancy
  • RTPI accreditation
  • Excellent knowledge of modern construction methods and techniques
  • A methodical, imaginative and analytical thinker, with practical construction experience and sound knowledge of planning, programming and control processes
  • An understanding of the challenges of developing and managing project programmes for residential building projects through all lifecycle stages
  • Articulate and calm under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a team or in isolation, and manage external working relationships
  • Able to contribute to the resolution of disputes
  • Organised and self-motivated with a willingness to take ownership of projects
  • Strong IT skills
