Job description

We are currently seeking an experience Technical Director or Head of Technical to join a team within an office near Sheffield.

This position is a brand new live position, which has become available due to rapid growth within the business.

Our client are a FTSE 100 client and are amongst the top 10  housebuilders across the United Kingdom.


Purpose of the Role:
• The main purpose of the role is to develop and manage the technical processes between consultants.
• To ensure that information and approvals are in place to allow the production team to build to the required standard and in line with the 5 year plan.


• To understand, implement and adhere to SHEQ policy and strategy and ensure that all staff reporting to you do the same.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Design & Approval Procedures
• Work closely with the Land team to ensure that feasibility sketches are buildable and compliant with regulations.
• Ensure Technical Department procedures, layouts and technical reports for Land Appraisals; and required working drawings to the agreed date schedule.
• Assist the commercial team in the appraisal of abnormal costs.
• Appoint brief and manage specialist consultants in all design and survey work to achieve the company design requirements.
• Plan and manage the development lead in process to achieve a start on site.

Manage Design Consultants
• Work closely with other staff to prepare brief for consultants.
• Host Pre-Commission meetings to agree brief programme for works.
• Procure and manage consultants.
• Ensure all approvals are in place when required.

Review Designs
• Work closely with staff to review and check drawings for accuracy, correctness and commercial suitability.

Services Management (in co-ordination with Central office)
• Obtain existing information from relevant organisations.
• Liaise with Services Co-ordinator to ensure utility information is processed in a timely manner.
• Work with Services Co-ordinator to procure the appropriate utility companies.
• Liaise with Services Co-ordinator and Commercial Manager to ensure orders are placed for the supply of all services on a timely basis.
• Support the management of service providers throughout the construction process.

Adoption Management
• Establish approval of proposals to ensure all constructed works and surplus land will be

passed onto the appropriate statutory bodies.
• Agree and formalise the detail of all adoption agreements.
• Agree and manage bond values.
• Pursue adoption completion procedures.

Drawing Management
• Issue drawings and information through a register system to ensure control on site.
• Ensure amendments to standard drawings are incorporated by external consultants.

Manage Ground / Remediation Consultants
• Understand and evaluate the technical constraints on land development.
• Commission ground investigation and remediation reports.
• Manage remediation consultants.
• Review technical information concerning remediation and provide value engineering solutions.

Meetings
• Prepare papers for inclusion in Regional Board Pack, present current issues and be involved in discussing and influencing all aspects of the business.

• Previous experience as Technical Manager/Technical Director role within a residential house building environment.
• Up to date relevant knowledge of building legislation.
• Experience of Partnership arrangements.
• Up to date relevant knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
