Job description

I am working with a successful and entrepreneurial land trader in West London who are renowned in the identification and acquisition of land for residential, commercial and mixed-use development. The business will look at a variety of land opportunities including immediate and strategic and will then gain successful planning permission before selling the opportunity to house builders or developers to deliver the project.

At present the business uses external consultants to assist in the delivery of technical and design advice as well as working drawing packages however due to the sheer volume in work, they are creating a new position to bring this in house. As the Technical and Design Manager,you will work closely with the land and planning team in bringing these land opportunities through the front-end development cycle to the point of successful planning being granted so the developer or house builder can go straight to site for the delivery of the project.

You will be a knowledgeable individual with at least 5 years’ experience working on residential projects and will ideally from an architectural background such as an Architect or Architectural Technician/Technologist. Even though the role is not delivery orientated, experience in a position delivering projects with a developer, contractor or house builder is advantageous. You will be the point of contact for any technical or design queries so will need to be a confident individual who is able to work on your own as well as in a team. You must also be confident dealing with working drawing packages and getting everything packaged up ready for on site construction and delivery.

Key requirements:

  • Degree qualified (or relevant residential experience).
  • At least 5 years’ experience working on residential and mixed-use projects.
  • Ideally from an architectural background working as an Architectural Technician/Technologist, Design Coordinator or Project Architect.
  • Even though you will not be delivering the projects, delivery experience working for a house builder, developer or contractor is advantageous.
  • Calm and collected and able to work alone as well as part of a team. You will be the main point of contact for all design and technical queries so will need to be confident in taking projects from land acquisition through to success planning permission and working drawing packages.
