A Project Architect is primarily responsible for overseeing the architectural aspects of the development of the design, production of construction documents and specifications on projects. The Project Architect generally involved coordinating the requirements of clients, designers and technical staff as well as external consultants including Structural, Civil and Mechanical Engineers as well as Interior Designers and other Architects. Other responsibilities include client relations, building code management, material specifications, maintaining quality control and checking and making revisions to drawings.
The Project Architect can also be known as a Project Manager and assume this role in smaller architectural practices but they are generally only responsible for the design management of a project assisted by other individuals in the team. A Project Architect will usually step up from an Architectural Assistant or can be an Architect moving into a wider role. If moving into a client side role with a house builder or developer they can often move into a technical or design position.
